The Unspoken Realities of Entrepreneurship: What They Don’t Tell You

The Unspoken Realities of Entrepreneurship: What They Don’t Tell You

The Glamour vs. The Grind

Entrepreneurship is often painted with a glamorous brush. Scroll through social media, and you’ll see countless courses promising to teach you how to sell anything, build a business, and achieve financial freedom. But what these courses often gloss over are the stressful overnighters, the 80-hour workweeks, the failures, and the loneliness that come with the territory.

The Importance of Your Environment

Take a moment to reflect on your surroundings, dear entrepreneur. While self-help finance books may seem repetitive, they hold a valuable insight – your environment might just be the key to forecasting your business successes. This realization can be both enlightening and disheartening. If your current environment isn’t conducive to success, it can feel like an uphill battle.

The Influence of Early Life

I remember my mom telling me about bad influences and how I would end up just like the people I hung out with. She was more right than she knew. My brother and I were alone most of our childhood, with a single-ish mom who was always working. Our environment wasn’t exactly the best for fostering future success. We spent our days at a rec center in Vegas, more or less a cheap babysitter for low-income kids. This wasn’t the ideal setting for nurturing ambition and drive.

The Power of Like-Minded People

It wasn’t until recently that I realized just how detrimental it was to lack like-minded people around me. I met a guy named Jon online, who was in his mid-20s and seemed to have his act together. He reminded me of myself before marriage and kids. Jon was busting his ass trying to start a business, and he had surrounded himself with people who shared his ambitions and drive. This was a game-changer for him, and it made me reflect on my own journey.

The Unseen Struggles

Everybody online has course after course aimed at the entrepreneur, teaching them how to sell this or that or do something for their business. All I hear is the over-glamorized tale of entrepreneurship. NOT ONE PERSON told me about the stressful overnighters, the working 80 hours a week, the failures, and the loneliness. Now, the last one, not everyone has experienced this part of the journey, that is if you are smart. I figure that this is how all the real smart kids felt like in high school. I am thinking though they must have had smart parents and surrounded their kids with other like-minded kids and adults. I was not that smart.

The Takeaway

The journey of entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. It’s filled with unseen struggles and challenges that are rarely talked about. However, understanding the importance of your environment and the people you surround yourself with can make a significant difference. Reflect on your surroundings and make the necessary changes to foster a more conducive environment for your success.

Remember, the road to success is rarely a straight line. It’s filled with twists, turns, and unexpected detours. But with the right mindset and support system, you can navigate through the challenges and come out stronger on the other side.
